The Barbershop Art and Book Gallery occupies a century-old structure in Hamtramck built as a neighborhood barbershop — a community fixture that once served the immigrant auto workers who shaped this city. That history is not incidental to what we do. Barbershops have always been places where ideas circulate freely, where people from different circumstances share the same room and leave knowing something they did not before. We inherited that function and reoriented it around art, photography books, and the conversations they provoke.

We are not a white-cube gallery and we are not a bookstore. We are something in between, and that gap is exactly where we want to be.
